13 Fishing Origami Blade Lure | Collapsible Hybrid Bladed Jig

★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

We built the Origami Blade to solve the biggest frustration with traditional bladed jigs: blade damage during storage and transport. Our patented collapsible blade system folds flat against the jig head when not in use, then snaps open with a single cast to deliver the aggressive vibration and flash that trigger reaction strikes.

The Origami Blade features a premium VMC hybrid treble hook, hand-tied silicone skirt, and a custom blade that produces maximum thump at any retrieve speed. Whether you're burning it over grass, slow-rolling structure, or yo-yoing in current, the Origami Blade stays balanced and maintains blade rotation. We designed this lure for anglers who demand tournament-grade performance without the hassle of tangled blades in the tackle box.

Patented Collapsible Blade Technology

The 13 fishing origami blade solves a problem every bladed jig angler knows: blade arms that bend, break, or tangle with other lures in your box. We engineered a spring-loaded hinge mechanism that lets the blade fold completely flat against the jig head when you press it down.

The moment the lure hits the water and you begin your retrieve, water pressure forces the blade to snap open and lock into fishing position. The hinge is stainless steel with a corrosion-resistant coating, rated for thousands of casts without failure. You’ll never worry about blade damage again, and your tackle storage stays organized without the need for individual lure boxes.

Rigging & Retrieve Techniques

Grass & Vegetation

The Origami Blade excels in sparse-to-moderate grass where you need both vibration and a semi-weedless profile. Cast past the grass line and begin a steady medium-speed retrieve, letting the blade deflect off grass stems. The compact head design and recessed hook eye reduce hang-ups compared to wider-profile bladed jigs. Pair it with a paddle-tail swimbait trailer for maximum action.

Structure & Hard Cover

When fishing docks, laydowns, or rock piles, the Origami Blade’s balanced head allows for vertical presentations that traditional bladed jigs can’t match. Drop it alongside a piling and yo-yo the lure with sharp snaps of the rod tip—the blade continues to rotate even on the fall. This triggers neutral bass that ignore horizontal-moving lures. The technique mirrors tactics used with our Freefall lineup but adds the flash and vibration component that bladed jigs are known for.

Styling

Hook & Skirt Specifications

We hand-select every VMC hybrid treble hook that goes on the Origami Blade. The hook features a wide-gap design with two standard treble points and one feathered trailer hook keeper. This configuration gives you the hooking power of a treble with the trailer-holding capability of a jig hook.

The silicone skirt is hand-tied with 50-strand premium silicone in color combinations we’ve tested across the country. Each color pattern is designed to match regional baitfish or trigger reaction strikes in stained water. The skirt collar uses a double-band system that prevents slippage even after dozens of fish catches.

Blade never tangles anymore
I was skeptical about the folding blade but it works perfectly. Toss it in the tackle box without worrying about bending the arm. Caught six bass in two hours on my first outing with the white/chartreuse.

Game-changer for dock fishing
The vertical yo-yo technique with this lure is deadly around docks. I've never had a bladed jig that rotates on the drop like this. Hooked three solid largemouth that ignored everything else.

Great action, sharp hook
Blade vibration is excellent and the hook is incredibly sharp out of the package. I deducted one star because I wish it came in a 5/8 oz for deeper water, but the 1/2 oz works fine.

Best chatterbait I've used
I've fished every major brand of bladed jig and this is the most versatile. Slow-roll it, burn it, or yo-yo it—the blade never stops working. The collapsible feature is just a bonus on top of great performance.

Perfect for grass beds
Used the 3/8 oz model in matted grass and it comes through cleaner than my old chatterbaits. Caught limits two days in a row. The green pumpkin color is money in stained water.

No more tackle box nightmares
I finally have a bladed jig that doesn't tangle with every other lure in my box. The fold-flat design saves so much space and the blade pops open every single cast. Genius engineering.

Origami Blade Buyer Questions

The Origami Blade uses a spring-loaded stainless steel hinge that allows the blade to fold flat against the jig head when pressed. When you cast and begin retrieving, water pressure forces the blade to snap open and lock into position.

The hinge is engineered with a corrosion-resistant coating and rated for thousands of open-close cycles. You'll never need to manually open the blade before casting—it happens automatically as soon as the lure enters the water and you start your retrieve.

We recommend a medium to medium-heavy power rod with a fast tip, 7 to 7'6" in length. Pair it with 15-20 lb fluorocarbon for clear water or 30-50 lb braided line for heavy cover and grass fishing.

For the 3/8 oz model, a 7' medium-power rod gives you the best casting distance and hookset power. For the 1/2 oz version, step up to a medium-heavy rod to handle the extra weight and larger fish that often strike this size. A 6.3:1 or 7.1:1 gear ratio reel works well for varied retrieve speeds.

Yes, both components are replaceable. The silicone skirt uses a standard double-band collar system, so you can swap it with any aftermarket skirt or trim it shorter for a more compact profile.

The VMC hybrid treble hook can be replaced with any hook that matches the eye size, though we strongly recommend sticking with the original VMC model for optimal balance and hooking performance. Changing hook size or weight may affect the lure's blade rotation and swimming action.

The Origami Blade performs well in a wide range of water clarity, from stained to moderately clear water. In stained or muddy conditions, the blade vibration and flash help bass locate the lure even when visibility is limited.

In clear water, natural colors like green pumpkin or shad patterns work best, while brighter colors like white/chartreuse or black/blue excel in stained water. The lure is most effective in water temperatures above 55°F when bass are actively feeding, but we've seen success in colder water using a slower retrieve.

The primary difference is the collapsible blade system that eliminates storage tangles and blade damage. Traditional chatterbaits have fixed blade arms that bend easily and tangle with other lures.

Beyond storage, the Origami Blade's balanced head design allows for effective vertical presentations that most chatterbaits can't achieve. You can yo-yo the lure alongside cover and the blade continues rotating on the fall, triggering strikes from fish that ignore horizontal retrieves. The custom blade geometry also starts rotating at slower speeds than many competing bladed jigs.

Paddle-tail swimbaits are the most popular trailer choice, adding extra action and a larger profile. Our Trash Panda swimbait in 3.5" or 4" sizes pairs perfectly with both weight options.

For a slower fall and more finesse presentation, try a ribbed swimbait or creature bait. These buoyant trailers keep the lure in the strike zone longer during pauses. In heavy cover, a compact craw or chunk trailer reduces hang-ups while maintaining the lure's weedless properties. Match trailer color to the skirt or use contrasting colors to create visual separation.

The stainless steel hinge mechanism is designed for long-term durability and rated for thousands of open-close cycles. In our field testing, anglers used the Origami Blade for entire tournament seasons without hinge failure.

To maximize hinge life, rinse the lure in fresh water after each use and apply a drop of reel oil if you notice any stiffness. Avoid forcing the blade open or closed manually—let water pressure do the work during your retrieve. With proper care, the hinge will outlast the hook sharpness and skirt condition.
