Rod Construction & Sensitivity

Every 13 fishing spinning combo starts with a rod blank engineered for bite detection. We use high-modulus graphite in our premium combos because it transmits vibrations directly to your hand—you’ll feel the difference between a rock, a weed, and a fish tapping your bait. The fast-action tips load quickly on the hookset but maintain enough backbone in the mid-section to control fish during the fight.

Our guide systems use stainless steel inserts that resist groove wear from braided line while dissipating heat on long casts. We space the guides using proven formulas that distribute load evenly across the blank, preventing stress points that can lead to rod failure. The same attention to balance that defines our complete combo lineup ensures each spinning rod feels natural in your hand from the first cast.

Reel Performance & Drag Systems
Sizing & fit

Reel Performance & Drag Systems

The reels in our spinning combos feature multi-bearing systems ranging from 5 to 7 bearings depending on the model. More bearings mean smoother operation, but bearing quality matters as much as quantity. We use shielded stainless steel bearings that resist corrosion in both freshwater and light saltwater applications.

Carbon Fiber Drag Technology

Our premium combos incorporate carbon fiber drag washers that provide consistent pressure across the entire drag range. You’ll get the same stopping force on the first run as you will after a 10-minute battle. The drag systems adjust from feather-light for finesse applications up to 20 pounds for big-fish situations, giving you control whether you’re fishing 4-pound fluorocarbon or 30-pound braid.

Styling

Handle Design & Grip Materials

We build our spinning combo handles using Portuguese cork on premium models and high-density EVA on value-oriented options. Cork provides superior grip in wet conditions and molds to your hand over time, creating a custom feel. The split-grip design reduces weight while maintaining balance points that prevent fatigue during extended fishing sessions.

Reel seats feature graphite or aluminum hoods depending on the combo tier. We use down-locking reel seats on all spinning models because they position the reel closer to your hand, improving sensitivity and reducing leverage that can cause wrist strain. The hook keeper positioned above the fore grip gives you a secure spot to store hooks during moves between spots.

Perfect sensitivity for finesse fishing
I've been running the Fate Black combo for six months now and it's changed how I fish drop-shots. I feel every rock and pebble on the bottom, which means I know exactly when a bass picks up my bait. The reel is smooth as glass and the drag never slips even when I hook into bigger fish.

Great value for the quality
The Creed K combo punches way above its price point. I was skeptical about the graphite construction but it's held up to a full season of abuse including saltwater trips. Caught everything from trout to small redfish on this setup without any issues.

Solid beginner setup for my son
Bought the Ambition combo for my 12-year-old and he loves it. It's light enough for him to cast all day but strong enough to handle the bass we catch in our local lake. The cork handle is a nice touch that you don't usually see at this price.

Replaced my $300 combo with this
I sold my high-end spinning setup after using the Fate Black for a tournament. The sensitivity is there, the drag is reliable, and I saved enough money to buy two more rods. 13 Fishing knows what anglers actually need.

Best combo I've owned
This is my third 13 fishing spinning combo and they keep getting better. The balance point is perfect, the guides never ice up in cold weather, and I've landed bass over 6 pounds without worrying about the drag system. Worth every penny.

Versatile for multiple techniques
I use my Creed K for everything from Ned rigs to small swimbaits. The medium power handles a wide range of lures and the 7-foot length gives me casting distance without being too unwieldy in my kayak. Only complaint is I wish it came in more power options.

Spinning Combo Questions

We spool our spinning combos with quality monofilament matched to the rod's power rating. Light and medium-light combos typically include 8-10 lb test, while medium and medium-heavy models come with 10-12 lb test. The line is ready to fish right out of the package, though many anglers prefer to re-spool with their choice of fluorocarbon or braided line for specific applications.

If you're switching to braid, we recommend using a mono backing or rubberized tape on the spool to prevent slippage under heavy loads.

Our spinning combos handle light saltwater applications like inshore redfish, speckled trout, and smaller species. The stainless steel components resist corrosion, but we recommend rinsing the combo with fresh water after every saltwater use to extend its lifespan.

For heavy saltwater use or targeting larger ocean species, consider upgrading to reels with fully sealed drag systems. The graphite and cork components on our combos perform well in brackish water and occasional saltwater trips but aren't designed for daily offshore abuse.

Fast-action rods bend primarily in the top third of the blank, providing quick hook-sets and maximum sensitivity for detecting light bites. This makes them ideal for techniques like drop-shotting, jigging, and working soft plastics where you need to feel subtle taps. Most 13 fishing spinning combos feature fast or moderate-fast actions.

Moderate-action rods bend deeper into the middle section, creating a slower, more parabolic bend. They excel when fishing treble-hook lures like crankbaits where the softer action prevents pulling hooks during the fight. Fast-action blanks also cast lighter lures farther due to their stiffer design.

Light and medium-light power combos in 6'6" to 7'0" lengths work best for panfish, trout, and finesse bass techniques with lures under 1/4 ounce. Medium power combos cover most bass fishing situations using lures from 1/8 to 1/2 ounce, including soft plastics, small swimbaits, and topwater lures.

Medium-heavy power handles larger bass baits, pike lures, and light saltwater applications. These combos cast lures from 3/8 to 3/4 ounce and provide the backbone to wrestle fish away from cover. For versatility, medium power in 7'0" length covers the widest range of techniques and species.

We stand behind every 13 fishing spinning combo with a limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Rods are covered for one year from the date of purchase, while reels carry a one-year warranty on mechanical components.

The warranty does not cover damage from normal wear, accidents, or modifications. To file a claim, contact our customer service team with your proof of purchase. We'll evaluate the issue and provide repair, replacement, or store credit based on the circumstances.

Each combo includes a matched rod and reel assembled and ready to fish. The reel comes pre-spooled with monofilament line appropriate for the rod's power rating. You'll also receive any protective rod tubes or reel cases that ship with that particular model.

You'll need to supply your own terminal tackle, lures, and fishing license. Some anglers prefer to re-spool with their preferred line type, but the factory mono works well for most applications right out of the box.

Many of our spinning rods and reels are available as individual components, giving you the flexibility to build custom setups. The combos offer value pricing compared to purchasing components separately, but buying individually lets you mix and match specific rod lengths with reel sizes tailored to your fishing style.

Our customer service team can help you select compatible rod and reel pairings if you prefer to build your own setup. We design our component specs to work across product lines for maximum versatility.
