13 Fishing Radioactive Pickle Ice Combo – Light-Bite Detection & Ultralight Power

★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

Our Radioactive Pickle Ice Combo is purpose-built for ultralight ice fishing when bluegill, crappie, and perch demand finesse. The 27-inch medium-light graphite blank delivers extreme sensitivity so you feel every nibble through gloves, while the inline reel's left-hand retrieve and smooth drag system let you fight fish without line twist.

We built this combo for anglers who chase light-biting panfish in 10 to 40 feet of water. The exposed blank transmits vibrations straight to your hand, the comfortable EVA handle stays grippy in sub-zero temps, and the fast-action tip loads quickly on the hook set. Whether you're jigging tungsten or running a dead-stick presentation, the Radioactive Pickle gives you the feedback and control to land more fish through the ice.

Rod Construction & Sensitivity

The Radioactive Pickle’s 27-inch graphite blank is engineered for direct contact with light-biting species. We use a high-modulus graphite composite that transmits every tap and head shake up through the exposed blank section, so you detect bites the instant they happen.

The medium-light power rating pairs perfectly with 2 to 4 lb test line and micro tungsten jigs from 1/64 oz to 1/8 oz. The fast-action tip loads on short hooksets but has enough backbone in the mid-section to horse 12-inch crappie or jumbo perch away from structure. Fluorescent green wraps and trim make the rod easy to spot in your sled or on the ice after dark.

Inline Reel Performance
Sizing & fit

Inline Reel Performance

We matched the Radioactive Pickle rod with a left-hand retrieve inline reel that eliminates line twist common with spinning designs. The inline spool feeds line straight off the top, so your bait hangs vertically and your line stays tangle-free even after hours of jigging.

The adjustable drag system gives you precise control when fighting fish on light line. A multi-disc drag stack provides smooth, consistent pressure, and the large arbor spool retrieves line quickly when you need to reel up and move holes. We pre-spool every combo with 4 lb monofilament so you can fish right out of the package.

Styling

Handle Ergonomics & Grip

The EVA foam handle on the Radioactive Pickle Ice Combo stays comfortable and grippy in freezing conditions. Unlike cork or hard plastic, EVA retains its cushion and traction when wet or icy, and it insulates your hand from the cold blank.

We designed the handle with an exposed blank section just above the grip so you can palm the rod for maximum sensitivity. When you’re fishing a dead-stick presentation or watching multiple rods, resting your thumb on the exposed graphite lets you feel light taps without staring at the tip. The handle length is optimized for one-handed jigging while you manage your flasher or bait bucket with the other hand.

Perfect for finicky bluegill
I've been using the Radioactive Pickle for two seasons now and it's my go-to rod for bluegill and crappie. The sensitivity is unreal—I can feel the lightest tap even with gloves on. The inline reel works great and I haven't had a single tangle.

Best combo under $60
We bought three of these for our annual ice trip and everyone was impressed. The rod is super light and the tip is sensitive enough to detect bites before the fish even pulls line. The reel is smooth and the drag held up on some bigger crappie.

Great sensitivity, solid value
The Radioactive Pickle delivers way more than I expected for the price. I can feel everything my jig is doing and the exposed blank section is a nice touch. Only reason I didn't give five stars is I wish it came with 3 lb line instead of 4 lb.

Kids love it too
I bought this for my daughter and she landed her first crappie on it. The rod is light enough for her to handle all day and the inline reel is way easier for kids to use than a spinning reel. Now she asks to go ice fishing every weekend.

No line twist, smooth drag
Switched from a spinning combo to this and I'm never going back. The inline reel keeps my line perfectly straight and the drag is buttery smooth. I've caught hundreds of panfish on this combo and it still looks brand new.

Excellent for dead-sticking
I run the Radioactive Pickle as my dead-stick rod and it's perfect. The fast tip shows every bite and the exposed blank lets me feel taps when I'm watching my flasher. Landed some nice crappie over 13 inches with this setup.

Good to know

Ice Anglers Ask About the Radioactive Pickle Combo

We recommend 2 to 4 lb test monofilament or fluorocarbon for the Radioactive Pickle. The combo ships pre-spooled with 4 lb mono, which handles most panfish situations. Drop to 2 or 3 lb test in ultra-clear water or when fish are finicky, and use 4 lb when fishing around brush or targeting bigger crappie.

The Radioactive Pickle is optimized for panfish species like bluegill, crappie, and perch. Its ultralight power and 4 lb line capacity are best suited for fish up to about 2 pounds. For walleye, we recommend stepping up to our Wicked Ice Rod or Whiteout Ice Combo, which offer medium power and heavier line ratings.

Yes, the inline reel on the 13 Fishing Radioactive Pickle Ice Combo features an adjustable multi-disc drag. You can tighten or loosen the drag using the star knob on the reel body. The drag is factory-set to a medium tension that works for most panfish, but you can customize it based on line weight and target species.

The Radioactive Pickle Ice Combo is designed for micro tungsten jigs and spoons in the 1/64 oz to 1/8 oz range. The medium-light power and fast-action tip load properly with these lighter weights. We find 1/32 oz and 1/16 oz tungsten jigs are the sweet spot for bluegill and crappie in 10 to 40 feet of water.

While we build the Radioactive Pickle with durable graphite, tip breakage can happen on the ice. Contact our customer service team if you experience a break—we offer replacement tips for many of our ice rods and can walk you through the repair process. Many anglers also carry a backup rod on long trips.

The Radioactive Pickle Ice Combo is designed as an inline setup, but the rod blank will accept a small ultralight spinning reel if you prefer. The reel seat is compatible with most ice spinning reels. If you want a factory spinning setup, check out our Radioactive Pickle Spinning Combo, which pairs the same rod blank with a 13 Fishing spinning reel.

At 27 inches, the Radioactive Pickle falls in the shorter range for ice rods, making it ideal for tight shelter spaces and close-quarters jigging. Shorter rods offer better sensitivity and hookset leverage in shallow to mid-depth water. If you're fishing depths over 40 feet or prefer a longer reach, consider our 30 to 32-inch models like the Tickle Stick or Whiteout.
