13 Fishing Inception SLD2 Baitcast Reel
We built the 13 Fishing Inception SLD2 to give tournament anglers and power fishing enthusiasts unmatched control and durability. This low-profile baitcaster features our advanced 6-way centrifugal braking system that adapts to any technique, from punching heavy cover to burning spinnerbaits over grass.
Japanese ABEC 5 stainless steel bearings deliver whisper-smooth retrieve under load, while the 8.3:1 gear ratio generates 33 inches of line pickup per crank. We paired that speed with 18 pounds of carbon fiber drag to handle everything from largemouth to stripers. The CNC-machined aluminum frame and titanium-coated line guide resist corrosion in both fresh and saltwater applications, making the Inception SLD2 a versatile workhorse for serious anglers.
Performance Specs

6-Way Centrifugal Braking System
The Inception SLD2 features our proprietary 6-way centrifugal brake that gives you total command over casting distance and backlash prevention. Each brake pin can be independently engaged or disengaged, allowing you to dial in the perfect setting for your lure weight, line diameter, and casting style.
We designed this system for anglers who switch techniques frequently throughout the day. Running a weightless fluke one minute and a 3/4-ounce jig the next requires brake adjustments, and our tool-free access lets you make changes on the water in seconds. The centrifugal design applies braking force proportional to spool speed, which means harder casts get more braking while shorter pitches stay efficient.

Japanese Bearings & Drag Performance
We source ABEC 5 rated stainless steel bearings from Japan because they maintain smooth operation under the line tension and environmental abuse that fishing reels endure. Six ball bearings plus one roller bearing support the spool and handle shaft, eliminating wobble and friction that plague cheaper reels.
The 18-pound carbon fiber drag system uses multiple washers to dissipate heat during long fights. We tested this drag on 8-pound stripers and double-digit largemouth, and the smooth startup pressure prevents line breakage on hooksets. The drag knob features audible clicks so you can return to preferred settings after adjusting mid-fight.
Frame Construction & Durability
CNC-Machined Aluminum Frame
We machine the Inception SLD2 frame and side plates from solid aluminum billet rather than using die-cast construction. This process creates tighter tolerances and eliminates the porosity issues that cause flex under load. The result is a reel that maintains gear alignment even after years of hard use.
Corrosion-Resistant Components
The titanium-coated ceramic line guide resists groove wear from braided line while shedding saltwater corrosion. We extend that protection to the handle knobs, which use sealed bearings to prevent grit intrusion. Anglers who fish our reel lineup in both fresh and saltwater applications report minimal maintenance needs, and the SLD2 continues that tradition with components chosen specifically for multi-environment durability.

Inception SLD2 Buyer Questions
The SLD2 features our fastest gear ratio in the Inception lineup at 8.3:1, designed specifically for power fishing techniques that require rapid line retrieval. It also includes the upgraded 6-way centrifugal braking system with tool-free access, Japanese ABEC 5 bearings for smoother operation under load, and a titanium-coated line guide that resists wear from braided line better than standard guides.
We built the SLD2 for anglers who prioritize speed and casting control when working reaction baits or fishing heavy cover. The frame shares the same CNC-machined construction as other Inception reels, but the internal components are optimized for high-speed applications.
While the 8.3:1 ratio excels in power fishing situations, the adjustable 6-way brake system makes the SLD2 versatile enough for finesse presentations. You can dial back the brake pins for lighter lures like weightless soft plastics or small crankbaits.
That said, we typically recommend a slower gear ratio like 6.6:1 or 7.3:1 for pure finesse work. The SLD2 shines when you need speed and power, so if you spend most of your time throwing jigs, spinnerbaits, or topwater, this reel is purpose-built for that style.
Remove the side plate by pressing the release button and lifting it off. You'll see six white brake pins arranged in a circle around the spool. Push the pins inward to engage braking or pull them outward to disengage.
Start with all six pins engaged and make a few test casts. If your lure is dropping short, disengage one pin at a time until you find the sweet spot. Heavier lures typically need fewer engaged pins, while lighter baits require more braking. We recommend keeping at least two pins engaged to prevent backlash on windy days.
We recommend 30- to 50-pound braided line for most power fishing applications. Braid eliminates stretch for better hooksets in heavy cover and allows you to pack more line on the spool. The titanium-coated line guide is specifically designed to resist groove wear from braid.
If you prefer monofilament or fluorocarbon, 12- to 17-pound test works well. Fluoro is ideal for clear water situations where line visibility matters. Whatever line you choose, fill the spool to within 1/8 inch of the rim for maximum casting distance.
Yes, the SLD2 handles saltwater environments thanks to corrosion-resistant components including the titanium-coated line guide, sealed bearings, and machined aluminum frame. We designed it to withstand both fresh and saltwater exposure.
After each saltwater session, rinse the reel with fresh water and apply a light coating of reel oil to exposed metal parts. The sealed bearing design prevents salt intrusion, but routine maintenance extends the life of any reel used in harsh environments. Many of our customers use the SLD2 for inshore species like redfish and striped bass with excellent results.
We back the Inception SLD2 with our standard manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. If you experience any issues with bearing function, brake system operation, or structural integrity under normal use, contact our customer service team for warranty evaluation.
The warranty does not cover damage from misuse, saltwater corrosion due to lack of maintenance, or normal wear items like drag washers. We recommend registering your reel after purchase to streamline any future warranty claims.
The Inception SLD2 is available in dedicated left-hand and right-hand retrieve models. The handle cannot be swapped between sides on this reel, so choose your preferred retrieve direction when ordering.
We manufacture the gear train specific to each retrieve direction for optimal performance. If you're unsure which hand to choose, most anglers crank with their dominant hand—right-handed anglers typically choose right-hand retrieve, though some prefer to crank with their non-dominant hand for better rod control.
